Whanau day: Marae visit

Image result for reminder

As you all are aware we endeavoured to get out to our Whanau Marae - Hurungaterangi - last term. Both times were postponed due to the weather.  Great news! We have managed to set another date for our visit as outlined below.

Having great connections with our local marae is very important and as the day goes ahead the students will learn so much about Hurungaterangi (our Koromatua) and the local area around the Marae.

Hurungaterangi Marae visit
When: Wednesday 17th May
Where: Hurungaterangi Marae - Hurungaterangi Avenue, Ngapuna
Time: 8:40am - 2:45pm
How: Students to be dropped off and picked up from the Marae.
What: Bring packed lunch, water bottle, sun hat, sun block, jacket/warm clothing.
Clothing: Formal uniform is to be worn for the powhiri, then students get                           Changed into mufti clothing - appropriate for walking/sport.

The Day:
There will be a powhiri to be welcomed onto the marae. Then we will learn about our Koromatua - Hurungaterangi-from one of the Elders of the marae, learning all about who he was and the area that is so important to our Whanau Marae. We will then begin our three rotations of activities for the day. The rotation includes art, photography, harakeke, waka carving, orienteering, observing the natural ngawha, seeing an actual maara and learning traditional games.

Students will be dismissed FROM THE MARAE AT 2:45PM - please ensure you have planned how your child will return home safely.
